چکیده
European beech is one of the dominating wood species in central Europe and most abundant hardwood Austrian, German Swiss forests. Today, it predominantly used for provision energy furniture industry. With increasing demand on forests to provide sustainable raw materials as well products, importance lesser-used like has continuously increased over last decade. The application load-bearing products gained significant interest. In order connect current historical state knowledge about this species, review provides an overview past present utilization wood. On basis literature, technical approvals standards established aims summarize extensive art recent scientific publications field material science. Based reviewed research efforts deal with different engineered glued laminated timber, cross-laminated timber veneer lumber. Furthermore, strength grading, adhesive technology improving dimensional stability particular

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L
Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...
متن کاملApplication of Microwave Heating for Acetylation of Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Poplar (Populus hybrids) Wood
Microwave and conventional acetylation of wood was carried out to determine its efficacy on the material properties. Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and poplar (Populus hybrids) samples with dimensions 14 mm × 14 mm × 14 mm were impregnated using acetic anhydride, and chemical reactions were initiated by microwave and conventional heating. The microwave acetylation process was carried out using labo...
متن کاملPredicting red heartwood formation in beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.)
Beech-forests (Fagus sylvatica L.) represent the natural vegetation cover for the majority of sites in Germany. Although coniferous forests actually dominate, beech is the most important among the deciduous tree-species in Germany, when considering the area and the economics. While the wood of the younger beech normally shows a whitish colour (white beech), the timber of older beech may form co...
متن کاملRelationship between Empty Seed and Genetic Factors in European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.)
The relationship between percentage of empty seed (Pes) and genetic factors was explored in an isolated stand of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Nine allozyme loci (GOT-B, IDH-A, LAP-A, MDH-B, MDH-C, MNR-A, 6-PGDH-A, PGI-B and PGM-A) were used to estimate genetic factors. Pes ranged from 4.8% to 40.9% for seed samples of 91 trees within the stand and showed an approximate normal distributi...
متن کاملResilient Leaf Physiological Response of European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) to Summer Drought and Drought Release
Drought is a major environmental constraint to trees, causing severe stress and thus adversely affecting their functional integrity. European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is a key species in mesic forests that is commonly expected to suffer in a future climate with more intense and frequent droughts. Here, we assessed the seasonal response of leaf physiological characteristics of beech saplings t...
